The National Association of Broadcasters plans to erect a new 10-story office building in Southeast Washington, D.C., by 2018, saying the move will increase its access to Capitol Hill.
The $58 million-revenue association currently is located at 1771 N St. NW near Dupont Circle. NAB will sell the existing headquarters to help finance the new building, which will be located on the corner of M and South Capitol streets Southeast, putting it two blocks north of Nationals Park.
"The new building will be a showcase venue for radio and television stations across America, and will send a strong message to public policymakers on the vibrant future of local broadcasting," NAB CEO Gordon Smith said.
The new building will have a curved facade facing M Street, a rooftop terrace with a view of the Capitol and a 100-seat theater. Both the rooftop terrace and theater will be used for receptions and special events.
The relocation also will put NAB about one mile south of Capitol Hill, which the group believes will improve its access to policymakers.
Groundbreaking on the new building is scheduled for spring 2016.
Monument Realty is the developer of the project and CBRE's Nonprofit Practice Group brokered the transaction. Monument has retained HOK to design the building. The association has selected Hickok Cole as interiors architect and MGAC as owner's representative. http://bit.ly/1N3ltTJ
